Can we maintain integrity around our religious observance while building a vibrant and mutually supportive community with those who may not fully share all of our ideals, practices and/or interpretations of what it means to be committed to Torah and Israel? Should we even try? And is it worth the effort?

Rabbi Ethan Tucker is co-founder and rosh yeshiva at Mechon Hadar and directs Mechon Hadar’s Center for Jewish Law and Values. He previously taught Talmud and Halakhah in the Scholars’ Circle of the Drisha Institute for Jewish Education in New York. Rabbi Tucker studied at Yeshivat Maale Gilboa and received smicha from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. He earned a doctorate in Talmud from JTS and a B.A. from Harvard College. He and his family have been living in Tel Aviv for the past year and a half.
